Bengals to add Esiason, Johnson to franchise’s Ring of Honor

NFL

The Cincinnati Bengals have announced the latest additions to their ring of honor, honoring former quarterback Boomer Esiason and wide receiver Chad Johnson. They will be inducted during a halftime ceremony on “Monday Night Football” on September 25th, during the game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Esiason, who spent 10 seasons with the Bengals, was instrumental in their 1988 AFC championship victory and earned the league’s MVP title. He ranks third in franchise history in passing yards and passing touchdowns. Johnson, known for his iconic “Ochocinco” nickname, is the Bengals’ all-time leading receiver and made an impact with his memorable touchdown celebrations during his 10-year tenure with the team.

The Bengals’ ring of honor is relatively new, with Esiason and Johnson being just the third class to be recognized. Esiason expressed his gratitude, noting that the team has turned a corner in recent years, recognizing its great history of players.

The selection process for the ring of honor has faced criticism, but both Esiason and Johnson see it as a sign that the Bengals are evolving like other NFL franchises. They are excited about the team’s recent success and believe they have a chance at winning a Super Bowl with quarterback Joe Burrow leading the way.
