Champion Lady ‘Cats, Bulldogs put two each on all-district team

The Class 3, District 16 girls and boys basketball teams have been announced, with the champion Milan girls and South Harrison boys placing two players each on the 10 player squad.

From the champion Milan Lady Wildcats, junior Cady Pauley and senior Jordyn Gray were named to the team.  Milan beat Brookfield for the district championship.  Brookfield sophomore Ella Daugherty and junior Alex Sharp were named to the girls team.  The six other selections were Trenton freshman Madi Moore, Putnam County junior Claire Tipton, Penney seniors Brighton Swindler and Somers Finch, and South Harrison freshman Hannah Carter and junior Emily Miller.

Named to the boys team, from South Harrison, who won the district title over Milan, were seniors Luke Karns and Braydon Sunderman.  Milan was represented by senior Dominic Dabney and junior Chekh Niasse.  Trenton senior Chase Otto was named all-district, in addition to Putnam County senior Landon Wood, Penney junior Andrew Rich, Putnam County junior Zach Heidenwirh, Brookfield senior Beau Kunkel, and Brookfield senior Carsen Beckman.

All-district coach of the year honors went to the leaders of the championship teams, in Ched Hurley of the Milan Lady Wildcats and Kale Watson of the South Harrison Bulldogs.

The Milan girls advanced to the Class 3 quarterfinals before bowing out of the playoffs on Saturday afternoon against Skyline.  South Harrison lost in the sectional round at St. Pius X of Kansas City.
