Chillicothe girls take giant step toward MEC title, rally for victory at Lafayette

High School Basketball

The 2nd-ranked (Class 4 MBCA) Chillicothe Lady Hornets rallied from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to force overtime, then overlook the Lafayette Fighting Irish to win 57-49 in a Midland Empire Conference showdown on Tuesday night.

Whitney Clampitt led Chillicothe’s late game surge, scoring 21 points to lead the once-beaten Lady Hornet squad.  Hannah Jones added 16 and Katelyn Parkey 10 for CHS.  Center Ashlyn Dotson led the Fighting Irish charges with 22 points.

The victory pushes the Lady Hornets to a perfect 6-0 record in MEC play, clinching a tie for the conference title.  A victory over Cameron would secure the title outright for Darren Smith’s team.

While the Hornets and Irish played their varsity girls game in St. Joseph, the Lafayette boys traveled to Chillicothe High School to play the Hornets, with the visitors in green coming away with a 74-59 win.  Walker Graves led the Hornets with 15 points.
