Chillicothe’s Clampitt finishes athletic career with 2nd place leaps at Class 3 state meet

In the girls Class 3 state track and field meet that concluded Saturday night, Chillicothe High School senior Whitney Clampitt finished second in both the high jump and triple jump.  Fellow Lady Hornet senior Jaime Albertson was sixth in the 100 meter hurdles and 7th in the 300 meter hurdles.

Top eight finishers earn team points.  The Trenton girls and boys did not receive points in the two-day event at Jefferson City High School.  THS senior Mason Hooyman was in a two-way tie for 9th place in the pole vault, while on Friday, a pair of Bulldog relay teams (boys 4 by 100 and girls 4 by 400) failed to qualify for Saturday’s championship race.

McClure South-Berkeley was the girls Class 3 team champion with 60 points.  Cardinal Ritter was second with 57, while the Chillicothe girls racked up 21 points, good for 9th place.

In the Class 3 boys state track and field meet, Brett Shaffer of Chillicothe was 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles and third in the 110 hurdles.  Walker Graves of the Hornets was 3rd in the shot put.  The 4 by 400 relay team from CHS finished 6th.  

Ja’Quawn Jones of Cameron was 8th in the 800 meters and Tristan Michaelis of the Dragons was eighth in the javelin.

John Burroughs won the Class 3 team title with 62 points.  Reeds Spring was second with 60, and Maryville third with 54 points.  The Chillicothe boys, with 23 points, finished 9th.

The Class 4 girls team champion was Camdenton with 57 points.  That was one point better than MICDS (which had 56).

Rockwood Summit won the Class 4 boys title with 53 points.  Parkway North was the runner-up with 48.

The Lee’s Summit West girls rolled up 109 points to run away with the Class 5 girls championship, followed by Hazelwood Central with 62.

Blue Springs won the Class 5 boys title with 70 points.  Lafayette Wildwood was second with 66.
