The annual CLAA (Caldwell-Livingston Athletic Association) Basketball Tournament is underway, with two first-round games and four quarterfinals played on Monday night.
The first-round games were played at Norborne High School, and matched the #8 and #9 seeds in the event, with the winner moving into a quarterfinal Tuesday night test against the #1 seed. In the girls game, #8 seed Brunswick beat Breckenridge 30-21, while #8 boys seed Norborne rolled to a 69-24 win over Breckenridge.
In quarterfinal games played on Monday night at Tina-Avalon High School, the #5 seed Hardin-Central Lady Bulldogs swung a mild upset over Hale/Bosworth, winning 37-35, while the #2 seed Southwest Livingston Lady Wildcats beat Keytesville 41-23.
In boys’s quarterfinal play, the #5 seed Brunswick took down #4 seed Keytesville 42-40, while the #2 seed Hardin-Central withstood a strong challenge from #7 seed Southwest Livingston, winning 61-51.
Quarterfinals continue tonight from Tina-Avalon, with the #3 seed Tina-Avalon Lady Dragons hosting Northwestern at 4:30, followed by the #1 seeded Northwestern boys against Norborne at 5:45, the #1 seed Norborne Lady Pirates against Brunswick at 7 o’clock, and the Tina-Avalon boys (#3 seed) battling Hale/Bosworth at 8:15.
