Faulty fielding benefits Gallatin in road win at Polo

High School Softball

The Gallatin Lady Bulldogs traveled to Polo on Wednesday night for a Grand River Conference Eastern Division game, a make-up for a late August rain-out.

With the host Lady Panthers supplying Gallatin with ample scoring opportunities, committing nine errors, the Lady Bulldogs opened up an early lead with three first-inning runs and won 9-2.

The top four hitters in the Gallatin lineup (Michael, Baker, Feiden, and Shubert) all scored two runs, as Karley Salmon pitched five innings of two hit, one run softball to earn the victory, striking out four batters.  Polo’s Shelby Copeland took the loss, despite having 12 strikeouts in seven innings of work, with only one walk.  She allowed seven hits, with all nine of the Gallatin runs unearned.

With momentum coming off of the road win, Gallatin returns home tonight (Thursday night) to host South Harrison at 5:30, while Polo remains home to take on the Princeton Lady Tigers at the same time.  The GRC East co-leaders, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs travel to Milan to battle the Lady Wildcats tonight.  Trenton, with a win, would improve to 6-0 and take a 1/2 game lead over idle Putnam County in the divisional race.  Trenton plays at Putnam County on Tuesday night in a game that may very well decide the GRC East champion.  Maysville, in addition to Putnam County, have tonight off.
