Gallatin golfers win district title, Trenton’s Tolson advances to state, in Monday postseason play

Trenton High School freshman Kiefer Tolson grabbed the final available spot in the Class 2 state golf tournament, shooting a 29 over par score of 100 to finish in a three-way tie for 19th place at the Class 2, District 4 tournament in Richmond.

The top 20 individual scores advance to the state tournament, along with the entire squads from the top two team scores from district competitions.  Barstow, with a score of 355, and California, with 368, earned those positions.  South Harrison, with a team score of 395, finished fourth, with three Bulldogs advancing to state with top-20 results, as Cooper Johnson shot 89 for 5th place, with Caden Littrell and Quinn Taylor, both a 97, in a 15th place tie.

Lathrop’s team shot 488 for 9th place, Lawson 491 in 10th, and Trenton’s 492 earned the Bulldogs an 11th place finish, with Brookfield in the basement at 518.  

William Boyd of California won the District 4 individual title with a 10-over par score of 81 in the event hosted by the Shirkey Golf Course.

The Gallatin Bulldogs have advanced to the Class 1 state tournament as champions of District 4, played Monday at the Excelsior Springs Golf Course.  GHS shot 360 and had all five golfers in the top-20 individually.  Kansas City Lutheran, with a runner-up score of 381, earned the other team spot at state.

East Buchanan was third at 406, followed by fourth-place Stanberry at 407, and King City, in fifth place at 431.  

Stanberry’s Landon Marticke won the individual title with a round of seven-over par 79.  Gallatin’s Brody Bird shot 82 for second place, with teammates Isaac Bird in third place at 88, and Logan Bottcher, in a fourth-place tie with 89.

Princeton’s Ashton Clapham will represent the Tigers in the Class 1 state event, after shooting 98, tying Worth County’s Aydan Gladstone for 10th place.  Others advancing locally are North Harrison’s Wade Briggs (99/12th), Gallatin’s Jordan Donovan (101/15th), and Gallatin’s Payton Feiden (1031/18th).

The Class 1, District 2 tournament was held at Heritage Hills in Moberly, with Marceline (332) and Westran (342) earning the team spots at state with the top two scores in the event.  Milan finished in fourth place with a team score of 379.  Logan Bain of Westran won the individual competition with a 5-over par score of 75.
