Harris scores three touchdowns, White two, in Trenton’s fourth consecutive GRC win

High School Football

Trenton overcome a lackluster first quarter with a second quarter points explosion, with Spencer Harris scoring three touchdowns and Jeffrey White two, in a 42-14 victory at South Harrison on Friday night, improving the Bulldogs to 4-2 overall, and 4-0 in the Grand River Conference, and dropping South Harrison to 0-6 overall, and 0-4 in the GRC.

South Harrison, a heavy underdog coming into the game in Bethany, threatened to take the lead in the first quarter, getting a turnover off a fumbled Trenton hand-off and driving the length of the field.  However, the game stayed scoreless as THS finished a goal-line stand by stuffing a South Harrison 4th-and-goal from the 2 yard line.

With the game tied at zero early in the second quarter, White got THS on the scoreboard:

Tom Johnson had the call on Hot Country Z 101.7 and KGOZ-TV.  Harris, less than two minutes later, gave Trenton a two-score lead with a 7 yard touchdown run.  Lathan Croy dented the goal line on a 1 yard sneak with 2:50 to go in the half, with a Jadan Whitney interception setting up the Bulldogs for more points with under one minute to go in the half:

South Harrison, with 8:52 remaining in the third quarter, got on the board, courtesy of a 1 yard touchdown carry from freshman tailback Collin Haffey.  Harris’ second 7 yard TD of the run, for Trenton, pushed the lead to 35-6 just 3 1/2 minutes later.  In the fourth quarter, strong front-line blocking and White’s elusiveness gave the visitors their final score of the night:

South Harrison added a touchdown and two-point conversion in the final two minutes of regulation, making the final score Trenton 42, South Harrison 14.

The victory keeps Trenton tied for the Grand River Conference lead with Maysville, as the Wolverines throttled Princeton, 58-30.  Maysville and Trenton appear to be on a collision course for a Week #8 rematch for the GRC title, but both teams need to avoid road blocks this week, as Trenton travels to Polo and Maysville hosts Putnam County.  Putnam County, on Friday night, gave Polo its second consecutive defeat, beating the Panthers 56-42 at Putnam County Stadium in Unionville.  Polo is now tied with Gallatin for fourth place in the GRC at 2-2, while Putnam County is in third place at 3-1, one game back of Maysville and Trenton.

In a game broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, Gallatin won a low-scoring affair at Milan, winning 14-6.  The game between the Bulldogs and Wildcats represented the first meeting between the schools since 1997.
