EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch) – Five-star East St. Louis recruit Jeremiah Tilmon has been released from his national letter of intent by Illinois, Illinois spokesman Derrick Burson confirmed in an email. The Fighting Illini have also released Belleville East guard Javon Pickett, who also requested to be released from his national letter of intent.

Both players signed with Illinois last fall, before the school fired coach John Groce and hired his replacement, Brad Underwood.

Tilmon, now able to sign a financial aid agreement with any school, is expected to give Missouri strong consideration, multiple sources have said. It’s currently a dead period on the NCAA recruiting calendar, meaning coaches cannot have face-to-face contact with recruits through Thursday. Coaches are allowed to talk to recruits on the phone during a dead period.
Tilmon is rated a five-star prospect and the No. 25 player in the 2017 recruiting class by Rivals.com. He’s rated a four-star recruit and the No. 29 player overall by 247Sports.com and the No. 8 power forward. Last summer, Tilmon announced six schools as his finalists: Illinois, Kansas, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina and Texas.
As of Tuesday, Mizzou has two available scholarships for the 2017-18 season and with three newcomers committed to join coach Cuonzo Martin’s first team: guard C.J. Roberts, who signed with MU in November, and recent commitments Michael Porter Jr. and Blake Harris.
