Kansas City Goats to start arena league franchise in June ’24

Local Sports

The Kansas City Goats is the newest professional sports team in Kansas City, set to play in The Arena League, a rejuvenated arena football league starting in June of 2024. The team will be playing their home games at Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City.

The ownership group of the Kansas City Goats includes several notable figures, such as NFL Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Brown, who is also the Commissioner of The Arena League. Other members of the ownership group are Chiefs Hall of Famer Christian Okoye, George Gates (COO of Gates BBQ), and sports radio personality Steven St. John.

The team name, “Kansas City Goats,” was chosen as a tribute to the history of Kansas City and the Municipal Auditorium. The building’s construction was pushed through by Boss Tom Pendergast, and his faction was nicknamed the Goats. Therefore, the team decided to honor the arena’s history by adopting the name “Kansas City Goats.”
