NCAA

The University of Kansas (KU) and Wichita State University (WSU) men’s basketball teams are scheduled to play each other on December 30, 2023, at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. This game marks their first regular-season matchup in 31 years.

Both head coaches expressed their excitement for the game and acknowledged the significance of the rivalry. Bill Self, the head coach of the University of Kansas, highlighted the opportunity for fans in the Kansas City area to watch the teams play during the holiday season and viewed the game as valuable preparation for Big 12 play. Paul Mills, the head coach of Wichita State University, thanked the Kansas City Sports Commission for organizing the event and anticipated national attention for the matchup between these two historically successful programs.

The University of Kansas and Wichita State University have a long history in men’s basketball, with their first game dating back to 1908. However, they have only met 15 times in total. Their most recent encounter was in the 2015 NCAA Men’s Midwest Regional held in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Kansas City Sports Commission, represented by President and CEO Kathy Nelson, expressed its commitment to providing unique sporting experiences for the Kansas City region. The commission sees this game as a compelling basketball event that will attract not only fans of KU and WSU but also fans of the sport itself.

Tickets for the game will go on sale to the general public on June 23, 2023, through the T-Mobile Center website (www.t-mobilecenter.com). More information about the game will be announced later in the year.
