Maryville boys, Lawson girls win District 8 titles, Trenton boys 9th, Lady Bulldogs sixth

Chillicothe High School hosted the Class 3, District 8 track and field championships on Saturday, with the team titles going to the Maryville Spoofhounds, with 160 points, and the Lawson Lady Cardinals, with 127.5 points.  Lawson’s total barely clipped the 122 points from the host Chillicothe Lady Hornets. The Chillicothe boys, with 112.5 points, also finished second.

The Trenton boys, with 46 points, finished in ninth place, while the THS Lady Bulldogs amassed 59 points in a sixth-place finish.  Eleven teams made up the District 8 field.

Top four finishers from Saturday’s event advance to Class 3, Section 4, at Clinton High School this coming Saturday, May 20th.

In the girls high jump, Chillicothe senior Whitney Clampitt won with a 5 feet, 4 inch leap.  Trenton’s Whitley Richman (4’8″) was third.  In the boys high jump, Peyton Forck of Chillicothe finished first.  

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs took a victory in the pole vault, with senior Mason Hooyman going 9 feet.  Molly Jones and Kennedy Corzette, both of Chillicothe, finished second and fourth respectively.  Cameron’s Joseph Zinkand (13’6″) won the boys pole vault, with Jack Willard and Bradley Mosier, both of Chillicothe, finishing 3rd and 4th.

The boys long jump saw a 4th place finish for Trenton’s Austin Burkeybile.  Clampitt of Chillicothe was second in the girls triple jump.  In the girls discus, Chillicothe’s Jylian Davis was fourth, with Trenton freshman Kendall Crowley, despite finishing out of advancement territory, showing a great performance, finishing fifth at 94 feet, 4 inches.

In the boys discus, Chillicothe’s Walker Graves was second and Trenton’s Jadan Whitney (131’1″) fourth, both moving onto Clinton.  Graves was 1st and Jadan Whitney 2nd in the shot put, with Graves at 49’0.75″ and Whitney at 46’0″.  Jalynn Reeter of the Chillicothe Lady Hornets was fourth in the girls javelin, while Tristan Michaelis of Cameron was 2nd, and Chillicothe’s Bradley Mosier and Walker Graves 3rd and 4th in the javelin.  

The Trenton boys (Zane Rottman, Alex Parrack, Zac Smith, Cole Schilling) were 4th in the 4 by 800 relay.  Chillicothe’s Jaime Albertson won the 100 meter girls hurdles, with Trenton’s Whitley Richman second, and Chillicothe’s Kylee Larson 4th.  Brett Shaffer of Chillicothe won the boys 110 hurdles.  Trenton’s Matthew Sibbit was sixth.

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs 4 by 200 relay team of Thelma Guerrero, Tenna Roberts, Lexi Whitaker, and Shayla Woodside was 2nd (1:52.27), behind Central Academy.  Cameron’s Nicole Jackson was 4th in the girls 1600 meter run.  Layne Worman of Chillicothe won the 1600 meter boys event, while Chillicothe’s girls moved on in the 4 by 100 relay, finishing 4th.  The Trenton boys (Wyatt Whittle, Matthew Sibbit, Brian Ewing, Austin Burkeybile) finished third in the 4 by 100 relay, behind runner-up Lincoln Prep and the winning squad from Hogan Prep.

Cameron sophomore Khayla Hollingsworth was second in the girls 400.  Chillicothe’s Albertson won the 300 meter hurdles at 50.68 seconds, with Kylee Larson of the Lady Hornets 2nd, and Trenton’s Whitley Richman running 53.56 seconds in a third place effort, advancing to sectionals.  Chillicothe junior Brett Shaffer ran 39.53 seconds to win the boys 300 hurdles.  Cameron senior Hannah Robinson was third in the girls 800, with Ja’quawn Jones of the Cameron boys winning the 800 meters for the Dragons.

Chillicothe’s Layne Worman was 2nd in the boys 3200, with Trenton’s Daniel Rodriguez sixth.  

Lawson, Trenton, and Chillicothe continued their highly entertaining 4 by 400 relay races, with the Lady Cardinals team of Taylor Dolt, Lily McDowell, Claire Holles, and Darion McAtee running 4:15 flat, beating runner-up Trenton (Tenna Roberts, Shayla Woodside, McKayla Blackburn, Lexi Whitaker) to the tape by 1.89 seconds.  Chillicothe was 1.73 seconds behind the Lady Bulldogs, in third place.  Chillicothe’s boys were second in the 4 by 400, behind the champions from Maryville.  Trenton’s squad of Zac Smith, Brian Ewing, Wyatt Whittle, and Carson Radcliff finished sixth.
