McCullough named All-District for THS volleyball, Final Four matches set for Cape Girardeau

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, after their strong play at last week’s Class 2 District 16 volleyball tournament, have received word that junior Evy McCullough has been named to the All-District second team.  District champion East Buchanan placed two players on the first team, in sophomore Emma Klein and freshman Maya Watkins.  Other first-teamers are Cali Bailey and Kelsey Stout of Mid-Buchanan, Lia Graham of Plattsburg, Elisha Westover of Hamilton, and Anastashia Williams of Lathrop.

Joining Trenton’s McCullough as second team picks are Hailey Clark, Zoe Webster, and Khania Clark of Mid-Buchanan, Addi Ishmael and Dawn Potter of East Buchanan, and Audrey Smith of Lathrop.

East Buchanan, on Saturday, advanced to the Class 2 quarterfinals with a two set sweep of Stover in the sectional round, only to fall in the quarterfinals to St. Paul Lutheran 2 sets to 1.  St. Paul Lutheran, on Friday’s state semifinal round at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, will play St. Pius the Tenth of Festus, with Hermann and Licking playing in the other Class 2 semifinal.

In Class 1, Bishop LeBlond and Rock Port lost in state sectional action, with Crest Ridge beating LeBlond in three sets, while Santa Fe swept Rock Port in two sets.  The Santa Fe Lady Chiefs earned the state berth with a three set quarterfinal win over Crest Ridge.  Santa Fe, on Friday at the Show-Me Center, will battle Advance, with Billings and Calvary Lutheran in the other semifinal match.

Maryville had its volleyball season end on Saturday with a two-set loss to Pleasant Hill in Class 3, while St. Michael the Archangel swept Odessa 2 sets to zero.  SMA swept Pleasant Hill 2-0 to earn the state berth and a Friday meeting with Windsor High School.  St. Francis Borgia will meet Logan-Rogersville in the other semifinal.

Class 4 state semifinals will find Lafayette Wildwood against Liberty and Francis Howell Central taking on Nixa.
