Milan’s Pauley named Class 3 girls player of the year

The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association has made all-state selections for the 2020-2021 season, recognizing the top players in the Show-Me State for the campaign that ended in mid-march.

Milan High School junior Cady Pauley, a Missouri State University commit, was named the Class 3 Player of the Year, with Greg Brown of Lift for Life Academy named Class 3 Coach of the Year.

Pauley’s Milan Lady Wildcats won at Lawson in the Class 3 sectional round, ending the season for Lady Cardinals forward Laken Manns, another area selection to the Class 3 squad.

In Class 4 girls, in addition to being named Miss Show-Me Basketball, given to the best girls basketball in the state, regardless of state, Maryville High School senior Serena Sundell was named the Class 4 Player of the Year, as she was joined on the Class 4 team by MEC rival, Laini Joseph of Cameron and Macon High School senior guard Lexi Miller.

Mercer junior forward Tori Meinecke was named to the Class 1 all-state team, as was Meadville senior guard Kiera Holcer, Pattonsburg junior guard Webby Bailey, Stanberry junior forward Lexi Craig, and three members of the state champions from Platte Valley, in Malia Collins, Jaclyn Pappert, and Maggie Collins.  Tyler Pedersen of Platte Valley was named Class 1 girls Coach of the Year.

For Class 1 boys, all-state honors go to Green City junior guard Laydon Fields, who helped lead the Gophers into the state quarterfinals; Stanberry senior Collin Sager, Orrick senior Ethan Wilson, and the point guard from the team that Orrick beat in the sectional round, Grundy R-5 senior Caden Gann.

Two players from a Mound City Panther team that finished fourth at state were named all-state, in senior Landon Poppa and junior Tony Osborn.
