Missouri men fall to Seton Hall, women beat rival Illinois in weekend action

In Kansas City on Sunday night, Al-Amir Dawes scored 25 points, equaling his season high, leading Seton Hall to a 93-87 victory over Missouri. Seton Hall, now 2-0 all-time against the Tigers, previously faced Missouri in the second round of the 1992 NCAA Tournament, winning 88-71.

Seton Hall held a significant lead, reaching 19 points with under six minutes left, shooting 58.9% from the field, including 10 of 23 from long range. Despite the commanding lead, Missouri mounted a late comeback with a 14-1 run, cutting the deficit to six points. However, Seton Hall managed to secure the win by hitting crucial free throws in the final minutes.

Dawes led the Pirates’ scoring, going 9 of 16 from the field, including 4 of 11 from behind the arc. Dylan Addae-Wusu contributed with 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Dre Davis had 19 points and eight rebounds, while Kadary Richmond and Jaden Bediako added 14 and 11 points, respectively.

For Missouri, Tamar Bates led with 22 points, shooting 4 for 4 from three and the free-throw line. Sean East II contributed 16 points and six assists, and Nick Honor added 14 points.

Seton Hall, now 7-4, is set to host No. 5 UConn, while Missouri (7-4) will host No. 16 Illinois in their upcoming games.

Meanwhile, in women’s basketball, the University of Missouri secured a victory against Illinois in the annual McBride Homes Braggin’ Rights Showdown. Led by Mama Dembele’s career-high 20 points, the Tigers won 73-68. Dembele also recorded four assists and two steals, surpassing Raeshara Brown for sixth place on Missouri’s career assist leaderboard. Haley Frank contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, and Abby Feit added three triples, two steals, and two rebounds.

Missouri Women’s Basketball (8-4, 0-0 SEC) will face UMKC next, with the game scheduled for Thursday at Mizzou Arena.
