Ninety-five year old Nanetta “Nan” B. Carter, 95 of Savannah passed away on Saturday, December 30th.  She was born on July 31st, 1928 in Fillmore, MO to William & Maymie (Ramsey) Turner.  She married Warren Carter on April 29th, 1956 in Cameron and he preceded her in death in 1998.

Carter will long be remembered in the Trenton community and specifically, North Central Missouri College, as a strong advocate for sports, particularly for women.

Nan graduated from Fillmore High School in 1946. She attended summer schools at Northwest Missouri State University teaching in one room rural schools until her graduation from the university in 1953. That year, she joined the faculty at Trenton school system as a physical education instructor. The school system also included North Central Missouri College. She was a member of the College Foundation Board and an avid supporter of their programs.  After moving to Bethany, she taught in the South Harrison School District from 1959 to 1982, completing 32 years in education upon her retirement.

Her lifetime passion has been softball and all women’s sports. In 1961, Nan and her husband, Warren, organized their first women’s fast pitch team, known as the North Missouri CT’s. She coached for over 40 years and still considers her former players “her girls.” Her teams earned seven state championship titles and eight runner-up titles. Nan’s CT Timers, composed of players 35 and older, also won two 35-and-over national championships.

In addition to being an educator, coach and mentor, Nan’s other accolades include induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, St. Joseph Mustangs Hall of Fame, the Missouri ASA Softball Hall of Fame and the North Central Missouri College (NCMC) Athletic Hall of Fame. She was recognized with the Sprint Spirit Award at the WIN for KC ceremony in 2007, named the Lead Gift Contributor from 2016-2017 at NCMC and awarded the USA Softball Missouri Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. Nan has also established scholarships for NCMC student athletes each year.
