NCMC softball earns Sophomore Day split with Jefferson, sweeps Southwestern on Monday

The North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates welcomed Jefferson College to Griffin Field on Saturday afternoon, with the Region XVI rivals each earning one victory in the doubleheader, as NCMC fell 10-8 in an extra inning thriller to open the day, followed by a cleaner 5-3 victory in Game 2.

Sophomore Kelly Warford continued her fine late-season pitching in the nightcap, earning the victory to improve to 5-3, while sophomore Allison Hilsabeck was saddled with the loss in the opener, dropping her season mark to 15-8.

In the first game, sophomore Rachael Balke was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and 2 RBI’s, with a homer to her strong game.  Brookfield native Jaclyn Weydert added a long ball for the Lady Pirates offense.

In Game 2, sophomores Jessica Stupar and Amber Austin each had two base hits, with Stupar scoring twice and Austin adding two RBI’s.

NCMC finished off the home slate on Monday afternoon, with a dominant day of pitching against the Southwestern Community College (Creston, IA) Lady Spartans.  The Lady Pirates fired two shutouts at the Spartans, winning by scores of 4-0 and 5-0, pushing the North Central record to 30 wins and 16 losses. 

The NJCAA Division 1, Region XVI postseason tournament will begin Friday in Columbia, Missouri.
