The retirement announcement of Platte Valley Boys Head Basketball Coach Tim Jermain on Tuesday brought a close to a remarkable 34-year career marked by stops in Albany and Jefferson, before the latter’s merge with South Nodaway to create the Platte Valley program.

Beginning his coaching journey at Albany, Jermain was the boys coach for the Warriors for six seasons before leading the Lady Warriors for his last four campaigns in the district.  Under his guidance, his last girls’ team at Albany achieved notable success, qualifying for the Show Me Showdown and winning third place in Class 1.

In a 24-year tenure as the head boys basketball coach at Jefferson, Jermain found continued success.  In a program that later transitioned to Platte Valley, nine boys’ teams to qualified for the Show Me Showdown, capturing four MSHSAA Class 1 state championships.  He won 889 games in a notable career.

Platte Valley has quickly made moves to adjust its basketball programs in the wake of Jermain’s announcement.  Following a Class 1 state championship run earlier this month with the Platte Valley girls, Tyler Pedersen will be making the move from the girls bench to the boys bench as head coach in 2024-2025, with his former duties as head coach of the PV girls now taken by Aaron Murphy.
