Princeton track wins Class 1, Section 4 title

The Princeton High School boys track team won the Class 1, Section 4 track and field meet hosted by Lathrop High School on Saturday.  For the Tigers, Preston Thomas was first in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, and third in the 800 meters.

Thomas also was a member of the Tigers’ 4 by 800 meter relay team that placed first.  Other members of that squad were Logan Dunkin, Mitchel Hydorn, and Tyler Richter.

Princeton’s Zeb Schwartzkopf captured the high jump, with Logan Dunkin runner-up in the 3200 and third in the 1600 meter races.

Tyler Richter was fourth in the 800 meters.  Princeton’s 4 by 100 relay team of Dalton Fischer, Mitchel Hydorn, Logan Hanson, and Jakob Pauley were fourth.

Gallatin results from the Section 4 championships included Graydee Rains second in the discus and third in the shotput.  Gallatin’s 4 by 800 relay team of Aidan Adkison, Tristen Gibson, Taylor Teel, and Ayden Wayne finished third, with Adkison fourth in the triple jump.

Tri-County’s Jared Johnson was fourth in the high jump.

The Princeton boys amassed 81 points to win the team title.  Worth County was second at 72, with Stanberry 4th, Pattonsburg 6th, Gallatin 9th, and Braymer 12th.

From the Class 1, Section 4 girls event at Lathrop:

Princeton’s Jaelyn Steeby-Thomas won the 200 meter dash and was runner-up in the 100.  She was a member of the 4 by 200 relay race champions, joined by Raynah Collins, Lauren Krohn, and Raven Moreno.  Krohn was fourth in the 400.

Gallatin’s Claire Hemry won the 1600 and was second in the 3200.

St. Joseph Christian won the Section 4 meet with 82 points, followed by Worth County’s 79.   Stanberry was 10th, Princeton 11th, Maysville 12th, and Gallatin 13th.

The team standings for the Class 2, Section 4 girls meet at Lathrop found West Platte first, Clark County 2nd, Brookfield 3rd, Marceline 4th, Putnam County 9th, and Penney 10th.

Team standings for the Class 2, Section 4 boys meet at Lathrop found the host Mules winning the title with 110 points, with Monroe City second at 103, Clark County third, Brookfield sixth, Marceline in a 7th place tie, Milan 12th, Putnam County 13th, and Penney 15th.

Milan had three athletes qualify for the Class 2 state track and field meet this coming weekend in Jefferson City, with Cady Pauley advancing through in the shot put and discus, Hunter Shaw in the high jump, and Ryan Dabney in the javelin.

Top four finishers in last Saturday’s competitions at Lathrop High School will advance to the Class 1 and 2 state track and field championships, Friday, May 17th and Saturday, May 18th in Jefferson City.
