The Penney Lady Hornets picked up the biggest victory in the coaching tenure of Jordan Richman, outscoring the arch-rival Gallatin Lady Bulldogs 10-5 in overtime to claim a 52-47 upset win in the quarterfinals of the Lawson Invitational Tournament on Monday afternoon.

In the victory for the #6 seed from Hamilton, Kassie Moore led the winning side with 16 points, while Nora Ford added 14.  Gallatin, falling into the consolation side of the bracket, was paced by 10 points apiece from Sami Boyd and Cora Stout.

The win sends Hamilton into a 4:30 semifinal on Thursday afternoon against KCI rival West Platte, as the #2 seeded Lady ‘Jays knocked off North Platte on Monday, 60-49.

In boy’s quarterfinal action from Monday, the top two seeds rolled to convincing victories, as rivals Hamilton and Lawson won by a combined 65 points.  The top-seeded Cardinals, behind 22 points from Cody Glenn, cruised past West Platte, 55-19, while the Penney Hornets rode 23 points from Jaran Richman and 17 from LaTroy Harper to a 63-34 triumph over North Platte.

Tuesday night’s quarterfinal action begins at 4:30 from Lawson High School with a doubleheader, as the Trenton girls (4:30) and boys (6 o’clock) take on the Carrollton Trojans.  The games will be rematches of a doubleheader swept by the Bulldogs at Trenton High School in early December.  The Richmond Spartans will be involved in both late games tonight from LHS, as the #5 seed Richmond girls take on Lawson at 7:30, followed by the #4 seed Spartan boys challenging #5 seed Gallatin at 9 o’clock.
