The University of Mississippi has announced the hiring of former University of Texas basketball coach Chris Beard, tasked to rebuild the Rebels program.  Beard quickly became the leading candidate for the job in Oxford over the weekend, with Ole Miss officials researching Beard’s domestic violence incident that cost him the job at Texas in December.

Beard was arrested on December 12th.  His fiancee, Randi Trew, had told police that she had been choked from behind, hit her and bit her during an argument.  Eleven days later, Trew backtracked on the original statement, saying she had “initiated the physical struggle”.  Charges were subsequently dropped by mid-February, with Travis County, Texas attorney Jose Garza saying charges could not be proved beyond a reasonable doubt.
