Richmond wins District 3 wrestling tournament, Trenton advances Rorebeck, Whitney, and Owen to state

Richmond High School ran away with the Class 1, District 3 wrestling tournament that concluded on Saturday night.  The Spartans racked up 216 points to win by 72 1/2 points over runner-up Centralia, which had 143 points.  

Third-place Marceline had 130 1/2 points, fourth-place Gallatin 125 1/2, and fifth place Brookfield 107 points.  That group was followed by Lexington, Carrollton, Lafayette County (Higginsville), ninth place Trenton with 59 points, Hallsville, Polo, Penney (Hamilton), Tina-Avalon, Macon, and Wentworth Military Academy.

Trenton had three state qualifiers.  Drew Rorebeck earned the district championship at 160 pounds.  Jadan Whitney was third at 195, and Mason Owen fourth at 220 pounds.

Gallatin had six state qualifiers.  Ross Critten was first at 106 pounds.  Placing second for GHS was Declan Schweizer at 152 pounds and Graydee Rains at 1956.  Coming in third were Drayton Harris at 132 and Wyatt Bird at 145 pounds. Finishing fourth for Gallatin was Keegan Allen at 113 pounds.

Trenton’s Drew Rorebeck edged Andrew Edgar of Marceline 2-1 with an “ultimate tie-breaker” used in the 160 pound championship match.  MissouriWrestling.com ranked Edgar 1st and Rorebeck 6th in the state, in Class 1, in that weight class.

Rorebeck is 32-4 this season.

Trenton’s Jadan Whitney enters the state tourney with a 39-13 record after placing third in districts at 195 pounds.

Mason Owen enters state with a 39-11 record after finishing fourth at districts at 220 pounds.  Four of the wrestlers in the brackets, including Owen, were ranked in the top 5 statewide in Class 1 by MissouriWrestling.com:

Chillicothe has qualified eleven wrestlers for the Class 3 state tournament. In district competition at Excelsior Springs High School, Chase Minnick was first at 132 pounds.  Placing second for CHS were Colton Sewell (106 pounds), Dean Atkins (160), and Kayde Burton (182).  Coming in third for the Hornets were Bryce Larson at 138, Zach Blixt at 145, Joey Thompson at 152, Max Anderson at 220, and Keegan Valdez at heavyweight.  Finishing fourth for Chillicothe were Isaac Washburn at 170 pounds and Erek Brose at 195.

The state wrestling tournament, in Classes 1 through 4, runs this Thursday (February 16th) through Saturday (February 18th) at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
