Rival Pirates, Wolves split Region 16 games

Metropolitan Community College scored all five of their runs over the final three innings, salvaging a doubleheader split of a Region 16 doubleheader at North Central Missouri College on Monday afternoon.

The Lady Pirates dominated the opener at Mark Griffin Memorial Field, scoring five runs in the bottom of the 4th inning and adding three more in the 6th in a 9-1 win.  North Central amassed 15 hits in the victory, led by two doubles each for Casey Stout and and Maycee Edgar, a 3-for-4 game with four RBI’s for Rylee Sensenich, and 2-for-4 efforts from Erica Sandoval and Abby Dobbins.

Stout earned the win from the circle for the Lady Pirates, firing five innings of three-hit softball, striking out six.

The Lady Pirates offense slowed in the second game, although NCMC held a 1-0 lead going into the fifth innings.  MCC ripped the lead away with three runs in the fifth, adding needed insurance with a run in the 6th and 7th innings, as the Lady Pirates scored twice in the sixth, and once in the 7th inning.

North Central’s offense was held with five hits in the loss, the team’s fourth in region competition.  Dobbins and Sensenich scored runs, with East Buchanan grad Audrey Elifrits crossing the plate twice.

Sammi Bradshaw went the first 4 2/3 innings for North Central, giving up five hits and three runs, only one earned, while striking out three batters.  Stout struck out five in the final 2 1/3 innings for the Lady Pirates, giving up three hits and two runs, neither of the earned variety.
