Behind three shutdown innings from Shane Bieber and a three-RBI night from Bradley Zimmer, the Cleveland Indians defeated the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night by a score of 6-1, avoiding a three-game sweep at Kauffman Stadium.

Bieber, in his second appearance since a three-month long stay on the injured list, allowed one run on four hits.  Logan Allen pitched three innings for the win for the Indians, improving to 2-7.

For the Royals, rookie Angel Zerpa made his big-league debut, and was strong, allowing two runs, but both unearned, on three hits over five innings.

Carlos Santana had a pair of hits for the Royals, including an RBI single in the second inning.

Kansas City finishes its season this weekend, hosting the Minnesota Twins in a three-game series starting on Friday night at 7:10.
