Second quarter onslaught sends Lady Hornets to KCI final

The Penney Lady Hornets overwhelmed North Platte in a 28-9 second quarter surge on Thursday night, winning the KCI Conference’s girls semifinal game 54-40 at Lathrop High School.

Junior guard Nora Ford led Penney with 21 points while Graycen Prothero had 12, as the Hamilton girls advance to Saturday afternoon’s championship game to play the Lawson Lady Cardinals, a 50-38 semifinal winner over top-seeded Mid-Buchanan.  The girls championship game will be Saturday afternoon at 2:30.

Mid-Buchanan and North Platte will play Friday night at 8 o’clock in the girls third place game, with Plattsburg and East Buchanan dueling in the girls consolation final, Friday at 5 PM.

The Lathrop boys beat Lawson in one KCI semifinal on Thursday night, while #1 seeded East Buchanan won the other, beating Plattsburg 61-49.  The results place the Mules and Bulldogs in the boys championship game, Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock.  Plattsburg and Lawson will drop into the third place game, Saturday at 1 o’clock, while Penney and Mid-Buchanan play for the boys consolation hardware, Friday night at 6:30.
