Second-ranked Winston takes unbeaten record, top seed, into Osborn Tournament

High School Basketball

The Winston Redbirds will be in action tonight (Monday night), playing in the 22nd edition of the Osborn Invitational Basketball Tournament, against the host Osborn Wildcats at 6 o’clock.  After missing last week’s victory against Tina-Avalon, Redbird senior guard Craig Lewis, according to Head Coach Eric Lewis, will play tonight in the game at OHS.

Winston enters the game at 12-0, taking blowout victories in their last three contests (Green City, Tri-County, and Tina-Avalon) after a five-point win over Bishop LeBlond on December 22nd at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton.

Threats to Winston’s unbeaten run this week could come from the opposite side of the bracket, where a strong Stewartsville Cardinal team has the #2 seed, and the Grand River Conference’s Polo Panthers control the third seed.  Winston’s former conference rival, Pattonsburg, could be the semifinal opponent for WHS, with the Panthers holding the #4 seed.

Other quarterfinals at Osborn on Monday night will be the Stewartsville boys against the Winston at 4:30, with two girls games to finish off the night, as #1 seed DeKalb tangles with Union Star at 7:30, followed by the #2 seed Pattonsburg Lady Panthers going against the DeKalb JV at 9 o’clock.

On Tuesday night, the Polo boys open play against DeKalb at 4:30, followed by the Polo girls challenging the host Osborn Lady Wildcats (6 PM).  At 7:30, the Pattonsburg boys battle Union Star, with the Stewartsville girls taking on Winston at 9 o’clock.
