Sporting Kansas City ripped regional rival Minnesota United 4-0 on Wednesday night, with Khiry Shelton, Daniel Salloi, and Johnny Russell netting goals to give KC a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half.  Cameron Duke, in the 52nd minute of action, gave Sporting a 4-0 advantage.

The win pushes Kansas City’s record to 13-5-7, with 11 days of rest before a Western Conference showdown with the Seattle Sounders on Sunday, September 26th.  Minnesota, at 8-8-7, has won just twice away from their St. Paul home in the past 13 matches.

Shelton opened the scoring in the 14th minute, heading in a rebound, with the lead doubling to 2-0 in the 36th minute, with Salloi taking a Russell pass and depositing the ball into the net.  Russell scored on penalty kick in the 45th minute after Loons goalkeeper Tyler Miller took down Shelton at the edge of the 18-yard box.
