Kansas Jayhawks vs. Missouri Tigers is one of the bitter rivalries in Division One collegiate sports

Tigers, Jayhawks to renew the “Border War” – for hurricane relief

The University of Missouri will renew the “Border War” with the University of Kansas, at least for one Sunday afternoon in an exhibition setting at the Sprint Center in downtown Kansas City.  Both schools announced on Friday afternoon an exhibition game between the Tigers and Jayhawks on October 22nd.  Proceeds from the game will go toward hurricane relief efforts, with Kansas coach Bill Self, speaking at the Jayhawks media day on Lawrence on Friday, saying the hope is to “raise more than $1 million”.  The long-time bitter rivals have not played since Missouri’s departure to the Southeastern Conference in 2012.

There are no plans to televise or stream the game, scheduled to tip-off at 3 o’clock, however, Learfield Sports, rights-holder for Mizzou radio broadcasts, will broadcast the game.  The initial plan between KU and MU officials is to ‘split’ the approximately 18,000 tickets in the Sprint Center.

Ticket prices are: $200 courtside, $120 for lower-level sides, $75 for lower-level ends, $40 for upper level and $20 for students (upper-level seats).

Proceeds will be donated to the organizations that the five living former U.S. Presidents have come together to support: the Houston Harvey Relief Fund, the Rebuild Texas Fund, the Florida Disaster Fund, Juntos y Unidos Por Puerto Rico and the Fund for the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“The opportunity to use the platform of college basketball to help so many people in need is the most important aspect of this event,” Mizzou coach Cuonzo Martin said in a release. “Buy tickets to this game, but also please donate if you are able to … This scrimmage will not only be fun for fans of Mizzou and Kansas, but also for people all over the world.”
