Tolson, Owens, Kost highlight MBCA all-state team

Trenton High School sophomore Ainsley Tolson has been named to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) Class 3 girls basketball team, one of five 10th graders statewide on the squad.  Tolson, the point guard of the 4th place winning Lady Bulldogs, is joined by fellow sophomores Hayley Frank of Strafford (Class 3 Player of the Year), Aijah Blackwell of state runner-up Whitfield, Jordyn White of 3rd place winning Lutheran North, and Cameron Call of Mount Vernon. 

Tolson’s Lady Bulldogs of Trenton High School lost to Blackwell’s Whitfield Lady Warriors in the state semifinals, and White’s Lutheran North Crusaders in the third place game the following day.  

Senior Breon Gunnels of Kansas City Southeast, a Northern Iowa commit, is also on the Class 3 all-state team.  Southeast lost to Trenton (33-31) in the state quarterfinals on March 4th at Lee’s Summit High School.

Josie Fortney of East Buchanan High School, a Pittsburg State commit, is also on the Class 3 squad.

Two players from the Class 1 state champion Mercer Lady Cardinals have been named all-state, in senior forward Bailey Owens (Northwest Missouri State commit) and senior guard Nicole Kost (North Central Missouri College commit).  Others named all-state are Green City freshman Brooke Littrell, Norborne junior Madison Brown, Southwest Livingston junior Kaylie Campbell, and Jefferson senior Kelsi McQuinn.  Mercer’s Dan Owens was named the MBCA Class 1 Coach of the Year, while Bayley Harmann of Walnut Grove was named the Player of the Year.

Chillicothe’s Whitney Clampitt, a Fort Hays State commit, was named All-State for the second consecutive year, this time in Class 4.

In Class 1 boys, named to the all-state squad are area players Ryan Young of Meadville, Craig Lewis of Winston, Worth County’s Drake Kinsella and Cade Allee, and North Andrew’s Ryan Hughes and Caleb Patterson.

For Class 2 boys, Hunter Scaggs of Mid-Buchanan earned the statewide honor, in addition to Stanberry junior forward Brad Hailey.  Two seniors from northwest Missouri, Maryville’s John Zimmerman and Lawson’s Cody Glenn are on the Class 3 all-state team, in addition to Hamilton junior LaTroy Harper.
