Trenton breaks season-opening losing streak with win at Carrollton

Coming into the 2018 volleyball season, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs had high hopes of getting off to a strong start, with four straight home matches to open the lid on the new campaign.  Unfortunately for THS, strong play by visitors from Cameron, Lawson, Chillicothe, and Plattsburg put the girls at 0-4 heading into a Thursday night road match at Carrollton.

Whether or not it was a change of scenery that did the trick, the bus ride south proved to be profitable for the “Black and Gold”, as Trenton claimed its first varsity win of the season, downing the Lady Trojans in straight sets, 25-15, 26-24.  The Trenton junior varsity rallied from an early hole to take down Carrollton, 19-25, 25-14, 15-6.

The THS varsity, now 1-4 on the campaign, continues its road swing on Monday, traveling to Penney High School in Hamilton.  On Tuesday, Trenton is at South Harrison, with a trek to Kirksville following on Thursday, September 13th.  The Lady Bulldogs, on Saturday, September 15th, will play in the annual Lathrop Volleyball Tournament.

The Trenton Middle School volleyball teams took a pair of losses to Kirksville on Thursday night, with the “A” team falling in straight sets, 17-25, 21-25.  The TMS “B” team came up short in three sets.  Kaylea Boyle led Trenton with four aces.

The Chillicothe volleyball team took a tough-fought three-set loss to St. Pius the Tenth on Thursday night, 11-25, 25-20, 15-25.  Maggie Pfaff led the Lady Hornets offense with four kills, while Elli Ross had 10 assists, and Kylee Larson 12 digs.
