Trenton dominates road game at Maysville, improves to 4-4 with 48-6 win

High School Football

The Trenton Bulldogs were beneficiaries of six Maysville turnovers, including one returned for an 80 yard touchdown by Colton Colston, in a 48-6 win at Cemetery Bowl on Friday night, pushing Trenton’s record to 4-4 overall, and 4-2 in Grand River Conference play.

Trenton started the game, heard on Hot Country Z 101.7, in strong fashion, with Matthew Sibbit scoring on a 64 yard touchdown run just over two minutes into the contest.  Maysville had a shot at game-tying points, but fumbled away the football on a 3rd-and-goal from the one inch line, keeping the Bulldogs lead stay at 8-0.  The 80 yard “Pick 6” by Colston, an effort that saw the senior nearly tackled twice at the 20 yard line, had Colston eventually find an alley down the Trenton sideline, with the two-point conversion run by Carson Radcliff doubling Trenton’s lead to 16-0 just 57 seconds into the second quarter.

Senior quarterback Lathan Croy continued to play superb late season football for THS, scoring on a 4 yard plunge for the Bulldogs for a 22-0 lead.  A 19 yard scoring run by Radcliff and a two yard burst by Jadan Whitney left Trenton up 34-0 at the break.

THS added two more touchdowns to finish off their scoring in the third quarter.  Croy, in a play action pass, hit Hunter Dugan on a 15 yard strike, while back-up quarterback Sam Schilling scored on a 10 yard run behind his right tackle, with Lucas Clark making both extra points.

Maysville got on the board in the fourth quarter, forcing a fumble off of Trenton’s option game, with Morgan Tait returning the football 17 yards for the Wolverines only points of the game.

Trenton, with the win, continues to hold the #5 seed in Class 2, District 8, although the Bulldogs lead over #6 seed Lawson shrunk to just 0.03 points after Friday night’s results.  The #5 seed will likely travel to St. Joseph to play Bishop LeBlond on Friday, October 20th, with the #6 seed relegated to a trip to Lathrop to play a Mules team currently sitting at 6-2 heading into the final week of regular season play.

Trenton will host Gallatin this Friday night on Hot Country Z 101.7, with “Football Frenzy” starting coverage at 5:30, while the kick on Senior Night is set for 7 o’clock.  Maysville finishes the regular season with a trip to Milan to play the 1-7 Wildcats at Cal Hubbard Field, with coverage starting at 6 o’clock this Friday on KTTN FM 92.3.

The Princeton Tigers, for the first time in a decade, are the champions of the Grand River Conference, wrapping up the title on Friday night with a 20-6 victory over South Harrison, in action heard on KTTN FM 92.3.  The Tigers, at 8-0 overall, and 6-0 in the GRC, remain in the #1 spot in Class 1, District 8, with a home date against Polo wrapping up the regular season this Friday night.  South Harrison will wrap up the regular season playing the Putnam County Midgets.

Putnam County, on Friday night, picked up its biggest victory of the 2017 season, with a 30-28 victory at Gallati.  Levi Fowler threw for 267 yards for the Midgets, including the game-winning 70 yard touchdown pass to Grant Sands in the fourth quarter.  Fowler added a 27 yard strike to Tyler Roof in the first quarter, and a 60 yard pass to Carson Quint in the second quarter.

Gallatin had a pair of touchdown runs by quarterback Cole McBee, while Caleb Boyd had a 35 yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and Corbin Toney a 6 yard touchdown run in the third quarter.  Both teams scored one touchdown in all four quarters.  The difference of the game was in conversion, as Gallatin was just 2 for 4 going for two point tries, while the Midgets were 3 for 4, with the successful two point tries all coming on passes by Fowler.  Gallatin is now 5-3 overall, and 4-2 (tied with Trenton for second place) in the Grand River Conference, while Putnam County improves to 3-5 overall, and 3-3 in the GRC.
