Trenton volleyball takes three-set duel at Brookfield, dominating final points

Local Sports Volleyball

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs were able to rebound from a tough middle set on Monday night at Brookfield, taking a three-set victory over the Lady ‘Dogs by a final score of 25-20, 11-25, 15-6.  The rebound from an 11 point defeat in the second set is particularly an impressive feat for a Trenton squad that has struggled to grab back negative momentum in recent years, with the strong finish giving this year’s varsity squad its second win of the season.

Evy McCullough had another superb night at the net for THS, finishing with a match high 11 kills.  Lilly Berti had four kills for the visitors from Trenton, with Olivia Roberts adding three kills and three aces, with Ava Simpson stuffing the stat sheet to the tune of six assists, three kills and aces each, and a pair of digs.

Makenzee Epperson contributed two aces and a dig, with Jessa Shipley adding an ace and a dig for THS.  Trenton, in the midst of a burst of matches as the Lady Bulldogs build up their schedule coming out of a recent pause due to COVID-19, will host 7-6 East Buchanan tonight (Tuesday night), host the 2-6 South Harrison Lady Bulldogs on Thursday night, participate in the Carrollton Tournament on Saturday, and travel to Chillicothe on Monday night to play the archrival Lady Hornets.  Monday night’s varsity match, scheduled to start at approximately 6:30, will be carried live on KTTN FM 92.3.

Brookfield’s varsity, falling to 0-6 with the loss to Trenton, will play at Hamilton tonight (Tuesday night), and be a part of the Carrollton Tournament on Saturday.

The Trenton junior varsity volleyball team won at Brookfield on Monday night by straight sets 25-16, 25-12.  Kaylea Boyle had six assists and one ace for Trenton.  Others on the stat line included Zoie McGowan (three aces, one dig), McKenzy Dolan (two aces, one dig), Abby Simpson (six aces, two assists, and one dig), Katie Markell (three digs), Ally Yoder (four kills and one ace), Juliet Schmadeke (three kills), and Nautica Dowling (three kills).

Trenton’s C team downed Brookfield 25-17, 25-19, with Saige Gott putting in two kills, one assist, and one ace; Lilly Woods three aces and a pair of kills, McKenzy Dolan six aces, and Paige Farris four aces and one kill.

Trenton coach Pam Bowden was pleased with the sweep of three matches for Trenton over Brookfield, saying, “We had a great night, and have settled in after our two weeks off.  While working together, the varsity had some glitches, but at the end of the night, managed to put a “W” on the scoreboard!”
