Trenton’s Owen wins fourth place medal, while six area wrestlers win state titles on Saturday night

Six area wrestlers won individual championships during the state wrestling tournaments that concluded Saturday night at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. In Class 1, Kaleb Popplewell of Maysville placed first at 138 pounds and Andrew Edgar of Marceline was the 160 pound champion.  

In Class 2, area state champions were Chase Foreman of Cameron at 126 pounds, Chase Minnick of Chillicothe at 132, Tanner Sparks of Kirksville at 152, and Caleb Shanks of Cameron at 182.

Area wrestlers finishing runner-up in Class 1 were Dylan Wade of Maysville at 120, Dalton Wade of Maysville at 126, Richard Menconi of Brookfield at 195, Gunnar Martin of Polo at 220, and Baker Brooks of Brookfield at heavyweight.

Third through sixth place medalists from the listening area in the Class 1 tournament were James Jury of Brookfield 4th and Ross Critten of Gallatin 6th, both at 106 pounds; Dylan Wheeler of Marceline 4th at 120 pounds; Drake Eychaner of North Andrew (GRC) at fourth at 126, Drayton Harris of Gallatin sixth at 132; Cameron Wheeler of Carrollton 4th at 138; Wyatt Bird of Gallatin 6th at 145; Mason Doll of South Harrison was 3rd at 170; Graydee Rains of Gallatin was 4th at 195; D.J. Gerhart of Marceline was 3rd and Mason Owen of Trenton was 4th – both at 220 pounds.

Third through sixth place wrestlers from the listen area in the Class 2 state wrestling tournament were Colton Sewell of Chillicothe 4th at 106 pounds; Dean Adkins of Chillicothe 5th at 160; Kayde Burton of Chillicothe 3rd at 182; Dawson Cox of Cameron 5th at 195; and Joe Bryant of ameron was 5th at heavyweight.

Whitfield High School won the Class 1 tournament with 174 1/2 points.  Seneca was a distant second with 142, followed by Lawson and Richmond. Marceline was 7th (88 points), Maysville 8th (67 1/2), Brookfield 9th (64), Gallatin 13th, Carrollton tied for 21st, Trenton was 24th with 23 points (1 more than 25th place Polo).

Oak Grove captured the Class 2 tourney with 142 points, 10 more than runner-up Mexico.  Savannah was third, Monett 4th, Cameron 5th (90 1/2 points), and Chillicothe 8th (72 points).

Neosho won the Class 3 tournament with 150 points.  Smithville was a distant second at 118, followed by Kearney and Grain Valley.  Staley captured the Class 4 tournament with 119 1/2 points, folowded by Christian Brothers, Park Hill, and Wildwood Lafayette.

Trenton had three wrestlers compete in the Class 1 tournament.  Mason Owen had 3 victories against 2 defeats, finishing fourth at 220 pounds.  Drew Rorebeck was 2-2 at 160 pounds and Jadan Whitney was 2-2 at 195 pounds.
