Winston boys dominate in first postseason test, move to District 13 semifinals

The top-ranked Winston Redbirds took care of Breckenridge on Tuesday night, winning 87-13 in opening round action at the Class 1, District 13 tournament hosted by Orrick High School.

Jacob Lewis led the HDC champions with 21 points, with Cy Uthe pouring in 19, while Craig Lewis and Saxton Pliley both had 12.  Winston, now 25-0 on the season, advances to the Thursday night semifinal round to play Southwest Livingston.

The Wildcats, seeded #4, downed the host Orrick Bearcats in impressive fashion, winning 72-53.  The Winston vs. Southwest semifinal will tip at 6 PM on Thursday.

The Braymer boys ended the Tri-County Mustangs season, with the Bobcats having little difficulty in a 75-20 triumph.  BHS will play the CLAA’s Hardin-Central Bulldogs in a 7:30 semifinal on Thursday night, after Hardin-Central beat Wentworth Military Academy 66-23.

The Class 1, District 13 boys championship game is set for Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock.

The girls semifinals from Orrick are set for tonight (Wednesday night), as Orrick (#1 seed) battles Braymer at 6 o’clock, followed by the #2 seed Lady Wildcats of Southwest Livingston battling Hardin-Central at 7:30.  

The Class 1, District 13 girls championship game is set for Friday night at 6:30.

The District 13 winners advance to the St. Joseph Civic Arena to play the District 14 (North Harrison district) champions in a late-afternoon sectional doubleheader on Tuesday, February 28th.
