Youthful Lady Bulldogs host jamboree under new leadership

Changes in the Trenton Lady Bulldog softball program are abundant in 2021, with an all-new coaching staff in head coach Madi Stillwell and assistant Whitley Richman, two alums of a proud program that has done a ton of winning over the past two decades.

In addition to the new faces leading the program, THS is looking for ways to move forward an offense losing the top of the order punch of Maci Moore, while in an unexpected piece of offseason adversity, a season-ending knee injury to anticipated senior ace Jenna Reeter put pitching options from the underclassmen level to the top of the list of available arms.

Those were among the storylines on Saturday morning as Trenton played three scrimmages against Brookfield, Lawson, and Putnam County, and while the scoreboard showed struggles with an 0-3 record, the girls did show progress as the morning waned on, able to score against Putnam County on a Gracyn Rongey RBI single that plated Morgan King, in front of a good-sized enthusiastic group of fans at the Ebbe Sports Complex.

According to Coach Stillwell, part of Saturday’s goals, aside of scoreboard success, was to get the nerves out of her young pitchers as much as possible going into next weekend’s Cameron Tournament:

On Friday, August 27th, THS will play in Pool B in the 12-team Cameron Tournament, playing St. Joseph Central in the season opener at 12 noon, and coming right back to play Lawson in the following game at 1:30:

Trenton to return to playing opponents from the Grand River Conference as August comes to a close, hosting Albany on Monday, August 30th, and traveling to Putnam County where the Lady Midgets await in the GRC Eastern Division opener on Tuesday, August 31st.
