One of the top transfer portal prospects in the college basketball 2023 offseason is mark on the market, as former North Carolina guard Caleb Love, due to an admissions issue related to credit transfers, is no longer committed to the University of Missouri.

Love, a St. Louis native and product of Christian Brothers College High School, played three seasons at North Carolina, including a magical run in the 2022 NCAA Tournament that led UNC to the national championship game.  He scored 30 points in a Sweet 16 win over UCLA, and had 28 points against Duke in a victory in the national semifinals. Last season, the 6’4″ junior, in a disappointing season for the Tar Heels, averaged a career-high 16.7 points per game.

To some level, Love’s “Michigan miss” leaves the door open for the home-state Missouri Tigers to make a recruiting pitch.  Love passed on MU to sign with North Carolina three years ago, and made a similar decision in April to choose Juwan Howard and Michigan over Dennis Gates and Mizzou.
