Gophers roll past North Shelby, advancing to quarterfinals against Platte Valley

The Green City Gophers traveled to North Shelby High School on Monday night, with the Gophers rolling to a 12-1 victory over the Raiders.  The Gophers and Raiders each scored a run in the opening frame, with the game tied 1-1 going into the second.

The rest of the contest titled the way of the Tri-County Conference squad, with Green City scoring twice in the second inning, and adding three runs in the fifth inning.  Jaden O’Haver took the pitching win for the Gophers, going the first 5 2/3 innings.  The loss ends North Shelby’s season at 11-7.

In St. Joseph, Platte Valley beat Gilman City by a score of 5-1.  The result will send Platte Valley to eastern Sullivan County to play the host Gophers on Wednesday night.

In other Class 1 quarterfinal contests on Wednesday, Sacred Heart plays Community, St. Elizabeth tangles with Liberal, while Greenwood battles Cooter.

Green City defeated Princeton 1-0 in the Class 1, District 14 championship game, with three Gophers named to the all-district team, in Grant O’Haver, Aaron Peavler, and Jaden O’Haver.  Princeton players earning the honor were Landon Krohn, Kelby Thomas, and Clay Evans.  The remainder of the team was made up of Novinger’s Jace Brownell, Corbin Axtell of Newtown-Harris, Mason Rayl of Newtown-Harris, Ayden Pasley and Mason Small of Linn County, and Quentyn Smith of Meadville.

The Putnam County Midgets took a 1-0 Class 2 sectional victory at Harrisburg on Monday night, returning home to prepare for a 5 o’clock quarterfinal on Wednesday night at McCalment Park against Salisbury, a 5-3 sectional winner of Eugune.

The Maysville Wolverines claimed a high-scoring Class 2 “Round of 16” game at Plattsburg, winning 12-11.  The result sends Maysville into a 6 o’clock game against Tipton, a 1-0 winner over Lincoln.  Other Class 2 quarterfinals will be Bernie vs. Chaffee and Iberia opposite Ash Grove.

The Class 3 and 4 sectional round will be played on Tuesday night.  Here is the schedule:
