The state-ranked Mid-Buchanan Dragons baseball team walloped North Andrew (14-2) and Northeast Nodaway (17-1) to win the championship in Saturday’s four-team Mid-Buchanan Baseball Tournament in Faucett.  After falling in the semifinal round to Northeast Nodaway by a score of 8-4, Trenton rebounded for third place with a dominant 14-2 triumph over North Andrew.

Spencer Harris got the baseball for Saturday’s 11 o’clock start against Northeast Nodaway, and gave up two runs in the top of the 1st inning, with Trenton responding with a single run in the bottom half.  The Blue Jays opened the lead to 6-1 with four runs in the third inning off Harris, and single runs in the 4th and 6th against Sam Schilling.  The Bulldogs showed late-game fight with two runs in the 4th and a run in the 5th, but not enough to get back into the game.

Harris took the loss, going three innings, giving up five hits and six runs (only three earned), with three walks and four strikeouts.  Schilling pitched three innings, giving up two hits (including a home run), two runs (one earned), with three walks and two strikeouts.

Trenton committed five errors in the game, a key factor that led to the four-run loss.  Harris, with the bat, had a 3-for-4 game with a pair of RBI’s. Colton Colston was 2-for-4 while Jesse Farmer had a pair of hits out of the nine hole in the lineup.

In the third place game, the Bulldogs, as the visitor, had two runs in the top of the 1st inning to take the lead against North Andrew, then peppered the Cardinals with 10 runs in the third inning to put the game away.  The Trenton defense was outstanding, with zero errors in the five inning game, called on account of the run-rule.

Drew Rorebeck gave up two runs and struck out 11 batters in the victory, walking only three batters.  Avery Cooksey had three hits in three at-bats, with Cade Darting adding two RBI’s, and Sam Schilling driving in three runs with a two-for-three effort.  Scoring two runs each for THS were Hunter Dugan, Cooksey, Harris, Darting, and Lovell.

The Bulldogs, now 7-8 on the season, have a rematch with North Andrew on Monday afternoon, playing the Cardinals in Savannah.
