Newtown-Harris/Grundy R-5 win sectional track championship

In the boys Class 1, Section 2 track meet at South Shelby High School on Saturday, the Newtown-Harris/Grundy R-5 cooperative finished as the team champions with 84 points.  Northeast (Cairo) was second with 62, with Princeton third with 55, while Braymer and Green City tied for fourth place at 51.  Tina-Avalon was seventh with 46 points, and Polo in a tie for ninth place with 34 points.

Zack Cross of Newtown-Harris was first, Asher Buggs-Tipton of Green City second, and Brian Peterson of Newtown-Harris fourth in the 300 meter hurdles.  Buggs-Tipton was first, Cross second, and Peterson third in the 110 meter hurdles, with Buggs-Tipton (of Green City) winning the long jump competition.

Braymer won the 4 by 100, 4 by 200, and 4 by 400 meter relays.  Newtown-Harris was second in the 4 by 400 meter relay, with Gilman City winning the 4 by 800 meter relay.

Andrew Rhoades of Princeton was first, Derrick Curtis of Tri-County second, and Zack Cross of Newtown-Harris third in the 200 meters, with Rhoades winning the 400 meter race.

Payton Miller of Newtown-Harris was third in the 800 meter run.  Gauge MacGregor of Newtown-Harris was second and Ignasi Caroz of Polo fourth in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.

Talan Holt of Princeton was first and Brian Peterson of Newtown-Harris fourth in the high jump.  Andrew Rhoades of Princeton was first and Tristan Harris from Green City second in the pole vault.

Tyson Gibson of North Harrison won the triple jump, with Tucker Singer of Tina-Avalon first, Tanner Singer of T-A second, and Glen Holt of Southwest (Ludlow) third in the shot put.

Maverick Gentry of Polo was first, Tyler Singer of Tina-Avalon second, and Tanner Singer of T-A fourth in the discus toss.  Gentry was first, Brody Langfitt of Gilman City second, Tucker Singer of Tina-Avalon third, and Andrew Rhoades of Princeton fourth, all in the javelin.

In the Class 1, Section 2 girls track and field meet at South Shelby, Brunswick edged runner-up Princeton and Northeast (Cairo) by one point to win the sectional title.  Brunswick had 67 points, with Princeton and Cairo both at 66.  Pattonsburg was sixth with 41 points, Polo eighth with 31, and Meadville ninth with 29 points.

Princeton was first in the 4 by 100 meter relay.  Gilman City was first in the 4 by 800 meter relay.

Kelsey Crabtree of Pattonsburg was first, Danielle Bears of Princeton second, and Madison Carvajal of Meadville fourth in the 100 meter hurdles, with Crabtree first, Carvajal third, and Kelsey Frederick of Novinger fourth in the 300 hurdles.

Hanna Vaught of Polo was first in the shot put and second in the javelin.  Molly Milazzo of Newtown-Harris was second and Avery Clark of Novinger fourth in the 800 meter run.  Milazzo was third in the 1600 meter run, with Meadville second and Newtown-Harris third in the 4 by 400 meter relay.

Princeton was second and Pattonsburg fourth in the 4 by 200 meter relay.  Danielle Bears of Princeton finished in a two-way tie for second place in the pole vault.

Abby Jones of Tina-Avalon was second in the 400 meter dash and second in the 200 meter dash.  Sloane McLain of East Harrison was third and Penelope Banta of Linn County fourth in the 200.  Jones of Tina-Avalon was fourth in the 100 meter dash.

Addilyn Henke of Princeton was third in the long jump.  Lacy Maier of Polo was third and Megan Spencer of Princeton fourth in the discus.

Sloane McLain of East Harrison was third and Annabelle Gardner of Pattonsburg fourth in the high jump.  Katelyn Jones of Pattonsburg was fourth in the triple jump.
