Local Sports Track

The South Harrison Lady Bulldogs continued their strong spring season with a team victory at the Jim King Relays on Monday afternoon, racking up 137 points to beat the total of 103 of the runner-up Princeton Lady Tigers and third place Putnam County’s 99.  On the boys side from Princeton High School’s Eddie Allen Field, Putnam County’s 147 points win the team title, followed by Newtown-Harris with 123 points and Princeton with 96.  The Trenton Lady Bulldogs amassed 50 points to finish sixth, with the Trenton boys, with 81 points, finishing in fourth position.

The Lafayette County (Higginsville) track and field teams swept the team titles at Thursday’s Gary Ferguson Relays at C.F. Russell Stadium in Trenton, with the Lady Huskers racking up 97 points to edge runner-up Brookfield’s total of 85, while the Higginsville boys amassed 158 points, cruising to victory over runner-up Newtown-Harris’ total of 115.  The annual “Trenton Relays” were renamed the “Gary Ferguson Relays” to honor Gary Ferguson, who began the relay event fifty years ago during a long-time career as a coach and administrator at Trenton High School.
