The Wellington-Napoleon Lady Tiger volleyball program made the lengthy road trip to Trenton High School on Wednesday night, leaving town with a doubleheader sweep, with the JV rallying for a three-set triumph, while the varsity match, heard on KTTN FM 92.3, had the Lady Tigers pull away from a spirited Trenton squad, sending the visitors record to 6-2.

The varsity final was 25-17, 25-18, 25-19 in favor of the Lady Tigers.  In the first two sets, the script for Trenton was similar, with the Lady Bulldogs roaring out of the gates to snare an early lead, only to have a counter-run by Wellington-Napoleon pull the visitors even.  Slight advantage in hitting percentage and return of serve slid the match slowly but decisively to the squad out of the I-70 Conference.

For Trenton, senior Evy McCullough had a strong night at the night, with seven kills and an even more impressive eight blocks.  Ava Simpson had a superb night of passing excellence, with 13 assists, Makenzee Epperson contributed two aces, with Lilly Berti adding three kills and three blocks, Kenzie Yuille five digs, and Olivia Roberts two kills and three digs.

Trenton coach Pam Bowden, her team now one week back off of a COVID-19 related halt to their schedule, told KTTNSports.com, “We played well.  The crowd got to watch some exciting volleyball.  The girls were in all three sets and competed with Wellington-Napoleon.  The Lady Bulldogs are executing, despite falling short of a win!”

The Trenton junior varsity had two match points held off by Wellington-Napoleon in Wednesday night’s opener, in a Lady Tiger triumph, 21-25, 29-27, 15-11.  For Trenton, Kaylea Boyle had six assists, with Ally Yoder adding six kills and five aces.  McKenzy Dolan had a pair of digs and a pair of aces, with Abby Simpson finding two aces from the back line, and Katie Markell scrambling for five successful digs.

Trenton is next in action on Monday night, playing at Brookfield.  A home date with East Buchanan follows on Tuesday, September 29th.
