Trenton head boys wrestling coach Charlie Bacon said he “could not be more pleased” with the night and how it turned out as the Bulldogs soundly defeated archrival Chillicothe on Tuesday night, grabbing a 41-21 victory at the THS gymnasium.

The Bulldogs snared victories in eight of the nine matches contested over the course of the evening, with the match starting with a double forfeit at 106 pounds, followed by a forfeit victory for Chillicothe’s Carter Shipers at 113 pounds, giving the Hornets an early 6-0 advantage.

Momentum for the home team began to pick up steam in the 120 pound match, as Cooper Houser won by 9-1 major decision, cutting Chillicothe’s lead to 6-4.  After head-to-head open weights at 126, Trenton picked up four pins in succession, with Mason Rongey, Brayden Hughs, Hunter McAtee, and Gavin Chambers extending the Bulldogs advantage to 28-6.

Chillicothe’s Caden Larson won by forfeit at 157, followed by Trenton’s Brayden Wiggins, in perhaps the most competitive match of the night, outlasting Chillicothe’s Dawson Sutton by 4-3 decision at 165 pounds.  Here is Coach Bacon:

Chillicothe picked up points courtesy of a Trenton open weight at 175 pounds, giving victory to Brody Cairns.  At 190 pounds, Logan Wilson had one of his strongest performances of the season, rolling to a 13-4 major decision over Keyton Warren.

At 215 pounds, Trenton’s Sam Gibson pinned Martin Moore, while a low-scoring heavyweight battle saw Chillicothe’s Bo Smith edge Trenton’s Gavin Cagle by 1-0 decision.

Here again is THS Coach Charlie Bacon:

Hunter McAtee was recognized during the dual for his 150th career victory that came last Saturday during the Brookfield Tournament.  The other THS wrestlers reaching that prestigious mark were Karson Hill, Mason Mounce, and Jadan Whitney.

There was one girls match in the Tuesday night proceedings, with Tori Stoner of the Lady Hornets defeating Trenton’s Avery Clark by 6-3 decision at 140 pounds.
