Trenton’s Gibson wins state title to cap wrestling season

There were four state champions and seven second place finishers from this area in the boys Class One wrestling tournament that concluded Thursday night at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

Finishing first were Sam Gibson of Trenton at 190 pounds, Peyton Parn of Brookfield at 126, Devan Parn of Brookfield at 175, and Fisher Nixdorf of Penney at 215 pounds.

Coming in second were Hunter McAtee of Trenton at 144, Drew Griffin of Marceline at 113, Gambal Staddie of Brookfield at 132, Colton Parn of Brookfield at 150, Ryder Gooch of Marceline at 175, Max Heintz of Maysville at 190, and Dawson Miller of Penney at heavyweight.

There were two championship matches in Class 1 in which both wrestlers are from this area. Brookfield’s Devan Parn edged Marceline’s Ryder Gooch 5-3 for the 175 pound title and Trenton’s Sam Gibson beat Max Heintz of Maysville by a 10 to 2 major decision in the 190 pound championship match.

Trenton’s Hunter McAtee came up just short in his 144 pound championship match, falling to undefeated Brendin Patrick of Butler 6-4.

Third place finishers from this immediate area in the Class 1 boys tournament were Alex martin of Penney at 113 pounds, Cooper Berry of Maysville at 120, Conner Quinn of Marceline at 144, Kendrell Carter of Brookfield at 165, and Gabriel Parker of Gallatin at heavyweight.

Placing fourth from this area were Eli Sperry of Gallatin at 106 pounds, Brayden Hughs of Trenton at 138, and Konnor Watkins of Maysville at heavyweight.

Coming in fifth were Trayce Switzer of Brookfield at 106, Draken Bennett of Maysville at 138, and Jarrett Eivins of South Harrison at heavyweight. Sixth place medalists include Tennison Nixdorf of Penney at 120, Brendan Barton of Maysville at 157, Logan Bottcher of Gallatin at 175, and Scout Gooch from Marceline at 215 pounds.

Four of the six medals awarded in the heavyweight class in class one boys went to area wrestlers—Dawson Miller of Penney was second, Gabriel Parker of Gallatin third, Konnor Watkins of Maysville fourth, and Jarrett Eivins of South Harrison fifth.

Centralia won the class one boys tournament with 194 ½ points. Brookfield was a distant second with 135—just ahead of third place St. Pius X with 131 ½. Coming in fourth was Tolton Catholic with 92 points. Maysville was fifth with 90 ½ points, Trenton sixth with 79, followed by Penney, Butler, Marceline, and tenth place Gallatin.

Pleasant hill won the boys class two tournament with 145 ½ points. Mid-Buchanan was second with 135 ½.  Mid-Buchanan won the class one boys tournament the previous two years, but was in class two this year after co-oping with North Platte. Cameron was fifth with 92 points.

In boys Class two, Cameron had two state champions—-Caleb Husch at 126 pounds and Chase Short at 138.  Cameron had two wrestlers finish fourth—-Dylan Pratt at 106 pounds and Gage Jones at 150.

The Chillicothe boys had two sixth place finishers—Carter Shipers at 113 and Brock Miller at 190.

Kearney edged brookfield for the class one girls state championship. Kearney had 75.5 points. Brookfield had 75. Cassville was third with 62 points, Cameron fourth with 57, and Mid-Buchanan fifth with 55 ½ points.

State champions from this area in the girls class one wrestling tournament were Jayden Keller of Brookfield at110 pounds and Justice Brewer of Cameron at 155.  Coming in second were Yoo Lee of Chillicothe at 120 and Hollie Hedgpeth of Cameron at 235 pounds.

Finishing third were Payton Weese of Marceline at 135 and Riley Howell of Brookfield at 145.

Placing fourth were Mya Sackrey of Brookfield at 140 and Karydon Jones of Gallatin at 145.

Coming in sixth were Maddie Dauber of Marceline at 100 pounds and Valorie Gabrielli from polo at 145.  Thus the 145 weight class had three state medalists from this area–Riley Howell of Brookfield, Karydon jones of Gallatin, and Valorie Gabrielli from Polo.
