Reaching the state playoffs from the local area in Class 2, in addition to Maysville, were Plattsburg and Putnam County.  The Tigers were beaten by Maysville in a thrilling sectional matchup on May 22nd by a score of 11-10, with MHS reaching the Final Four with an 8-6 win at Tipton two days later.  Putnam County’s season ended with a 4-0 loss in the quarterfinals to Salisbury, following a 1-0 sectional win over Harrisburg.

Platte Valley fell short in its efforts to bring a Class 1 state title back to Nodaway County, with St. Elizabeth winning Tuesday afternoon’s state final 13-3.  St. Elizabeth won the state title by defeating Weaubleau 16-1, Liberal 6-4, and Cooter 9-0 in a dominating playoff surge.  Platte Valley defeated Gilman City 5-1, Green City 5-4, and Community 8-0 in their playoff run.  Green City had defeated North Shelby in the sectional round, 12-1.

The Class 3 state championship went to Licking High School, with a 3-1 win over South Callaway on Thursday afternoon.  Licking beat Forsyth 11-0, Stockton 11-1, and Barstow 4-1 on the way to the state title.  Both Lathrop and Tri-County (Gallatin) reached the state playoffs, playing each other on May 23rd with the Mules winning 10-6.  Lathrop lost to Barstow in the quarterfinal round 4-0.
