Bearcats choose Ottawa University’s Keeley as new hoops coach

Northwest Missouri State University Athletics Director Andy Peterson has announced the hiring of Ottawa University (Arizona) head coach Matt Keeley as the 21st head men’s basketball coach in Northwest’s program history.

Keeley, a native of Great Bend, Kansas, has been the head coach at Ottawa for the past seven seasons, with an overall record of 113-89, three consecutive National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national tournament appearances, while being named the 2023 National Coach of the Year.  Ottawa is located in the northwest Phoenix suburb of Surprise, Arizona.

Prior to his move to Arizona, Keeley was an assistant coach at his alma mater, MidAmerica Nazarene University (KS) from 2009-2017, where he was a starting point guard from 2000-2004, earning the HAAC Player of the Year award in 2003-2004.  In the MIAA, Coach Keeley was an assistant at Washburn University (Topeka, KS) from 2007-2009.

Matt Keeley and his wife Jana have four children: Cade, Reese, Cam, and Rylee.
