Buffalo planning to deal WR Stefon Diggs to Texans

NFL

The Buffalo Bills are finalizing a trade that will send Stefon Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, to the Houston Texans in exchange for draft-pick compensation, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

In the trade, the Bills will receive a 2025 second-round pick (originating from the Minnesota Vikings), along with a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick from the Texans.

The decision to trade Diggs comes shortly after he responded on social media to a user’s comment questioning his importance to Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s success. Diggs’ departure marks a significant move for the Bills, who are parting ways with a key offensive weapon.

On the Texans’ side, this trade is another bold move in their offseason strategy to build a competitive team around quarterback C.J. Stroud. They’ve already acquired running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals and secured star pass-rusher Danielle Hunter in free agency.

Diggs will join an impressive Texans offense, which features Stroud, reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, along with Mixon, receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell, and tight end Dalton Schultz.

Meanwhile, the Bills have undergone some changes this offseason, parting ways with several veteran players, including releasing Tre’Davious White, Jordan Poyer, and Mitch Morse due to salary cap constraints. Additionally, receiver Gabriel Davis and outside linebacker Leonard Floyd left the team in free agency.

Despite Diggs expressing his desire to stay with the Bills last season and signing a significant contract extension, the team has decided to move on, resulting in a substantial dead money charge for the upcoming season.
