Major League Baseball’s push into the country of Mexico will continue in 2019, with four regular season games and two spring training games announced by MLB last week. All six games will be played in the northern Mexican city of Monterrey, at the Estadio de Beisbol, regular home of the Sultanes de Monterrey of the Mexican League.
The St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds will play in Monterrey on April 13th and 14th, 2019, with the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros playing games on May 4th and 5th at the facility.
On March 9th and 10th, the Colorado Rockies will play the Arizona Diamondbacks in back-to-back Cactus League games.
This past May, the Dodgers and Padres played a regular-season series in Monterrey, taking advantage of the long-time popularity of the Dodgers franchise, buoyed in the 1980s by the presence of left-hander Fernando Valenzuela, “South of the Border”.
