Cardinals tip Bulldogs in Monday tennis duel

The Benton Cardinals upended the visiting Trenton Bulldogs by a score of 5-4 in a girl’s tennis competition on Monday afternoon at Hyde Park in St. Joseph.

The more competitive of the matches came in doubles, with Benton winning 2 of the 3 duels.  Sydney Brown and Kally Horn, at #1 doubles, downed Trenton’s Lexi Gott and Kendall Crowley 8-6, while at #2 doubles, Benton’s Natalie Johnston and Maggie Church took an 8-5 decision over Gwyneth Foster and Mallory Sole.  At #3 doubles, Morgan Dolan and Alaina Overton got a victory for THS, 8-4 over Mickayla Johnson and Kelly Milichichi.

In varsity singles, Trenton’s wins came in the #3 match, with Foster beating Johnston 8-5, at #5, with Dolan routing Johnson 8-0, and a #6, with Overton taking an 8-1 triumph over Milichichi.  For Benton, Horn beat Gott in the #1 match 8-1, with Brown downing Crowley at #2 8-3, and Church grabbing an 8-0 shutout of Sole at #4 singles.

Trenton won all four JV matches against Benton, with the team of Baley Catron and Emilee Lovell taking a pair of doubles wins by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.  In singles, Catron beat Shifflett 6-1, with Lovell downing Levendahl 6-2.
