Chiefs battle injuries, prepare for expected Breeland suspension, as camp continues

The Kansas City Chiefs are well within the one month mark to the start of their Super Bowl championship defense, with the opener against the Houston Texans looming for Thursday, September 10th.

While the big guns in the Chiefs arsenal, the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and Tyrann Mathieu, look to be ready to go for the season, there have been noticeable bumps and bruises in the roster as camp continues next-door to Arrowhead Stadium.

With an update is head coach Andy Reid:

Thornhill, a second-year defensive back from the University of Virginia, is continuing his comeback from a late-season ACL injury that kept him off the field for Kansas City’s run to the Super Bowl title in early 2020.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Kansas City’s starting right cornerback Bashaud Breeland, is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on substance abuse, citing a source.  That would keep him out of the first four games of the season, against Houston, the L.A. Chargers, Baltimore, and New England.

Kansas City has re-signed wide receiver Marcus Kemp, according to Chiefs Digest.  Kemp, who tore his ACL in last year’s preseason, had a tryout with the team on Tuesday morning, and practiced with the Chiefs on Wednesday morning.
