Chiefs put Thornhill, Rankin on PUP list

Still in recovery from January surgery for a torn ACL, Kansas City Chiefs safety Juan Thornhill will begin camp on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, joined by veteran offensive tackle Martinas Rankin.  As soon as either of the two pass a physical, they become eligible to be reinstated by the Super Bowl champions.

Thornhill, a promising rookie second-round pick from a year ago, missed Kansas City’s playoff run after suffering a season-ending ACL tear in Week 17 against the L.A. Chargers.  Prior to the injury, Thornhill had 56 tackles, five pass breakups and three interceptions.  His surgery occurred on January 14th.

Rankin is a 25-year old who played in six games for Kansas City in the 2019 season, including five starts.  A patella injury in November short-circuited his season.  In 2018, Rankin, playing for the Houston Texans, had four starts but appeared in all 16 games.
